Corrupted Nepal

If all the politicians of Nepal were to stop their bribery only for a year, Nepal would have enough money to build roads to reach every corner! Now go tell that to Nepalese living in Nepal or abroad, you would be surprised how true your words are. There is a lot of bribery and corruption in Nepal. Full Stop.

Among many reasons of rural poverty, some are lack of access to resources and roads. If politicians of Nepal were so serious to develop the nation, the roads to reach every farmers backyard would have decreased the rural poverty by many folds. Due to lack of usable roads, farmers are unable to get agriculture inputs and to sell their products. Did you know that more than 80% of Nepalese are farmers and most of them live in rural parts of Nepal with little or no access to roads and modern agricultural facilities.

Political Culture, Democracy and Society

All too often, we have set of complains about politics and politicians, but have we ever thought of the opportunities we have within the political culture. Isn’t it time that we come together, have a discussion and dialogue in fostering democratic practices amongst the young people as Nepal is going through this important democratic transition.
Youth Initiative has designed a three days  program “Political Culture, Democracy and Society” for Nepali youth leaders which aims to foster and strengthen democratic practices in the Nepalese society by understanding, learning, reflecting current context and planning together for future actions.

Minister Yadav accuses employees of corruption

RAUTAHAT: Minister of State for Local Development Ghanashyam Yadav has accused the employees for corruption in the various offices of local bodies.

He accused the employees while giving directions inside the meeting hall of District Development Committee (DDC) Rautahat on Wednesday.

Minister Yadav revealed that employees have committed corruption in the name of political parties.

While saying that the act of duping general public has increased, Yadav directed the local bodies, to show courage in taking action against the tainted employees.

“The employees should shun the tendency of veiling their crooked motives inside the mask of political affiliations,” warned Yadav.

Nepal second most corrupt country in South Asia: TI

KATHMANDU: Nepal is the second most corrupt country in South Asia after Afghanistan, with Bhutan being the least corrupt in the region, if one goes by the Corruption Perception Index- 2011 released by Berlin-based Transparency International today.

According to TI, the world’s most credible measure of domestic and public sector corruption, Nepal is ranked 154th with a score of 2.2. It was ranked 146th last year. The index had scored 183 countries and territories from 0 (highly corrupt) to 10 (very clean) based on perceived levels of public sector corruption. Two thirds of the ranked countries have scored less than five.
A press statement issued by Bishnu Bahadur KC, chairperson, TI-Nepal, states that any country that scores less than three shows that corruption is all-pervasive there. Read more »
